This collection of heritage annual flower seeds reflects the Illinois Country French Colonial garden esthetic of combining beauty with the necessary food production of an eighteenth-century kitchen garden. These easy-to-grow, reliable and striking annual flowers of the Fort de Chartres Heritage Kitchen Garden Project thrive in our region and are currently grown in the demonstration jardin potager at Fort de Chartres (Zone 6b).
The sample heirloom seed packet collection is packaged in the typical manner of an eighteenth-century letter and sealed with red wax. The package itself opens to detailed information reflecting the history and additional growing details of each variety. Ten individual sample seed packets are contained in each collection: Ageratum, Double Balsam, Globe Amaranth, French Mallow, Larkspur, Love in the Mist, Love Lies Bleeding, Nasturtium, French Field Poppy, and Striped French Marigold.
