Heirloom Vegetables of Autumn
This collection of heritage vegetables suitable for planting for an autumn garden contains seeds of Refugee Bean, Cylindra Beet, Winter King Savoy Cabbage, St. Valery Carrot, Red Russian Kale, Brown Dutch Lettuce, Blue Podded Pea, China Rose Radish, Giant Winter Spinach, and White Egg Turnep. This seed collection reflects the types of fall vegetables that are part of the French Colonial culinary traditions of the Illinois Country and are currently grown in the demonstration garden at Fort de Chartres. These vegetable types were typical to the French Colonial period and thrive in our fall Fort Jardin potager (Zone 6b).
The heritage seed packet collection is packaged in the typical manner of an 18th century letter and sealed with red wax. The package itself opens to detailed information reflecting the history and additional growing details of each variety. Ten individual sample seed packets are contained in each collection.
